The co-founder of Soil Seed and Water, LLC, Mike McMahon talks about the benefits of compost and the difference between using compost in the soil versus conventional agriculture methods which treat the soil with synthetic fertilizers which do help grow the crop but in the long term, it provides nothing for the soil creating an inhabitable environment for the plant to grow healthy. This means that it helps the plant to grow in the short term but damages the soil in the long term by turning it into unfertile soil.
